The Rand Brothers wrote to Council telling them the matter of removing the old verandah from Tremont Hotel {pictured above} on Carrall Street will be attended to. A $15 per year lease was granted to Mrs. Lina Marshall for a small piece of land at the south end of Stanley Park Bridge. A by-election was established for Ward 5.

The Council met on Monday September 27th 1897
Present: His Worship the Mayor and Aldermen Painter, Townley, McQueen, McPhaiden, Brown, W.S. MacDonald and D.G. McDonald. The Minutes of last meetings were read and adopted.
Communications
From H.H. Allen of Leslie’s Weekly New York asking the Mayor to confer with the commercial bodies of the City with a view of getting them to advertise their wares for outfitting gold hunters to the Klondike. Referred to Finance Committee.
From From W.D. Brydone-Jack asking for a streetlight on the corner of Westminster Ave {today’s Main Street} & Lansdowne Street {today’s 4th Avenue}. Already attended to.
From the Chief of Police reporting on the electric lights. Filed.
From A. W Ross, Secretary of the Citizens’ Celebration Committee, New Westminster, asking that Thursday the 7th prox be proclaimed a public holiday to permit the citizens of Vancouver to attend the Fair at New Westminster.

It was then read a 3rd time on motion of Alderman D.G. McDonald, seconded by Alderman McQueen.
The Council then adjourned.
