Vancouver’s Budget for 1898 Established at $404,344.95 – April 1, 1898

Vancouver’s expected income of 1898 was $404,344.95. The Police Committee was granted $24,558.16, the Fire Department $21,923, the Health Committee $24,321, the School Board $56,380 and the Board of Works $74,450.

Vancouver April 1st 1898

The Council met on April 1st 1898 at 8 P.M.
Present His Worship the Mayor and full Board of Aldermen.

The Council again went into Committee of the Whole and resumed the consideration of the Estimates.
After due consideration it was moved by Alderman McQueen that the Committee rise and report.
They reported the completion of the Estimates with amendments.

It was then moved by Alderman McQueen,
Seconded by Alderman McGuigan

That the estimates for the year 1898 be finally passed as follows:

It was resolved to grant the Y.W.C.A. $100 and free water and exemption from paying an Employment Agency License.

It was resolved to give Mr. Burritt, foreman of the Street Sweepers $1.75 per day and John Glenn, Water Works blacksmith $3.00.
