John Potter was appointed Inspector of the Reservoir at $3.00 per day. Mr R. Hughes was allowed to take out a temporary three month license in the absence of his business partner. The takeover of the Vancouver Illuminating Company’s assets by the City to include “the whole of the plant and materials” used to furnish street lighting.

The Council met on Monday April 2nd 1894 at 8 pm
Present: His Worship the Mayor and Alderman Shaw, Queen, McDowell, McCraney, McPhaiden, Franklin, Wm. Brown, C.L. Brown and Bethune.
The minutes of last regular and special meetings were read and adopted.
Communications
From John Campbell asking the Council to take action regarding the correction of the survey in D.L. 185 next to the park. Referred to the Board of Works
From W.S. Gore, Deputy Commissioner of Lands and Works asking for a map of indicating the position of Dundas Street and the roadway through Hastings Townsite. Referred to the Board of Works
From W.B. Ross complaining about being molested on the street. Filed
From A. Gigrew furnishing an affidavit that he had lost 3 poll tax receipts. Filed
From N.G. Tatlow asking if there was any question about the title to Clark’s Park. Referred to the City Solicitor

Hughes be allowed to take out a temporary license for 3 months on paying a proportional amount of the annual license, in the event of the Licensee leaving or being absent from the City a temporary license be issued to his partner for at least three months, on paying the proportional amount of the annual license, this only to apply to bona fide <illegible.
2. That the tender of Wm. Murphy be accepted for the Police uniforms as follows:

That the resolution passed on March 14th by the Fire and Light Committee “that the present contractors for street lighting be notified that the City intends to expropriate their “poles and wires” be amended by adding the following words “and the whole of the plant and material used by the Company in connection with the lighting of the streets by lights of the Thomson Houston Arc System under the terms of the Agreement made between the Vancouver Illuminating Company and the City of the 7th October 1889 at such time as may be mutually agreed upon and in default of agreement being arrived at that the

will be settled by arbitration under the terms of the agreement. Carried
Notices of Motion
Alderman Shaw gave notice that at the next meeting of Council he will move that the necessary proceedings be taken to collect overdue taxes.
Alderman McCraney gave notice that at next meeting of Council he will introduce a By-Law to add that portion of Ward 5 lying west of Centre Street to Ward 1.
The Council then adjourned.
