Vancouver Wants Out of the Municipal Clauses Act – February 1, 1898

Council met on Tuesday Feb 1 at 10 pm to authorize the Mayor, Alderman Townley, and the City Solicitor to ask the BC Government to amend the Municipal Clauses Act of 1896 so that Vancouver will be exempt.

The Council met on Tuesday February 1st 1898 at 10 am.
Present the Mayor and full Board of Aldermen.

Moved by Alderman Townley
Seconded by ” McQueen

That the Mayor Mover and City Solicitor be empowered to draft and forward a Petition praying the Legislature to amend Section 4 of Municipal Clauses Act 1896 so that the City of Vancouver shall be exempt from the operation of the said Act:

Carried.

Moved by Alderman Townley
Seconded by Alderman Neelands

Resolved that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to affix the City Seal and sign a petition to the House of Representatives to amend the Charter; the the sum of $300.00 be paid for Parliamentary fees on amendment of Charter, that the City Solicitor be instructed to prepare amendments and forward same to the Clerk of the House on the lines of the Draft Amendments submitted.

The Council then adjourned.
