JAMES WHETHAM
One of the newly elected representatives for Ward 2, is a comparatively young man, having been born in the year 1854, in Wentworth County, Ontario. He was educated in the Waterdown High School and the Collegiate at Hamilton, Ont. He then went through a medical course at the Trinity Medical School , Toronto, and also at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He was in Manitoba at the time that Province was beginning to make a name for itself. He came to the Pacific Coast in 1881, with the intention of settling in British Columbia, but after his arrival here then he considered the Province as too much cut off from the rest of the world for the time being. Since 1881 he has passed most of his time in Oregon and Washington Territory, returning to Ontario, for a year at a time, on two different occasions. He practiced medicine for three years in Spokane Falls, making also many successful investments in real estate in various parts of Washington, Oregon and elsewhere. He came to Vancouver for the first time, since its incorporation, in 1887, and invested here, and is just one of the kind of men Vancouver is proud of, as he has not only invested but has improved his property both to his own benefit and to that of the city at large. He is justly popular with all who have met him and has a shrewd business head on his shoulders. The electors of Ward 2 could hardly have made a better choice for one of their representatives.
