The Council for 1892 held its first meeting at Monday noon January 18th 1892.
Present: His Worship the Mayor Frederick Cope, and Aldermen R.A. Anderson, H.E. Connon, Henry W.J. McGuigan, H. P. McCraney, E. Odlum, F.L. Franklin, J. J. Gavin and Richard Mills.
His Worship the Mayor opened the proceedings with the usual address after which it was moved by Alderman Collins, seconded by Alderman McCraney
That the Council go into Committee of the Whole for the purpose of striking Standing Committees for the year.

That whereas it has pleased God to remove by death the Duke of Clarence and Avondale, eldest son of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and Grandson of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, it is hereby resolved that the Council of the City of Vancouver in the Province of British Columbia in Council assembled hereby tender its most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Her Majesty Queen Victoria and the Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales in their deep affliction and prays that they may be cheered and comforted by the assurance that all parts of Her Majesty’s Dominions British Subjects deplore the sad event and are united in our common Sorrow and that the City Clerk be instructed to wire the above resolution to Her Majesty the Queen, and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
