Vancouver purchases Fire Engine – June 28, 1886

Council met in the Relief Committee Tent. City Clerk to write to John D. Ronald accepting the terms he offered for the purchase of a Fire Engine in May. City Clerk also to write to manufacturers of fire bells for future City purchase.

Vancouver June 28th 1886

The Council met in the Relief Committee Tent on Monday evening June 28th 1886 at 7.30 o’clock P.M.
Present His Worship the Mayor, Aldermen Balfour, Cordiner, Caldwell, Griffith, Hemlow, Humphries, E.P. Hamilton and L.A. Hamilton.

The minutes of last meeting were read and adopted.

Telegrams were read from John W. Ronald Brussels, Ont. respecting the purchase of a Fire Engine.

Motion No [34]

Moved by Alderman Balfour, seconded by Alderman Hemlow that the City Clerk be instructed to write to John D. Ronald accepting the terms he offered for the purchase of a Fire Engine in his letter of May last.
Carried.

Moved by Alderman L.A. Hamilton seconded by Alderman Humphries that the Acting Treasurer furnish a Statement for discussion to the next meeting of Council showing the Amount received by him from Licenses, Police Court fines and any other sources up to the 30th June 1886. Carried.

A Fire By-Law was introduced and read for the first time.

Moved by Aldermen Humphries seconded by Alderman Hemlow that the City Clerk instructed to communicate with the manufacturers of Fire bells in reference to the purchase of one for the

City of Vancouver. Carried.

Motion No [36]

Moved by Alderman Balfour seconded by Alderman Hemlow that the Committees appointed some time ago to interview land owners regarding a site for City offices be requested to report at next meeting of Council. Carried.

The Board of Works was requested to meet on Wednesday at 3 o’clock P.M. and the Committee on Fire, Water & Light on Thursday evening at 7.30 P.M.

The Council then adjourned to meet again on Monday July 5th 1886 at 7.30 P.M.
