$6,000 was budgeted for renovations to the new City Hall premises at the Market building, $1,500 for the Mayor, $3,000 for the Aldermen.

Vancouver March 30th 1897.

The council met on Tuesday March 30th 1897.

Present: His Worship the Mayor and Aldermen Shaw, Painter, McQueen, Neelands, Clandenning, McPhaiden, Brown, W.S. MacDonald and D.G. McDonald.

The object of the meeting was to consider the Estimates for the year.

The Council went into Committee of the Whole for their consideration with the Mayor in the chair.

Seconded by “ Brown.

That the sum of $6000 be put in the Estimates for fixing up the Market Hall for civic offices.

That $30000 be granted to the City Band.

That $650 be granted to the Orphans Home.
