On motion from the Finance Committee, salaries of city employees were reduced. Streetcar tracks on Robson Street to be laid “to admit of there being two tracks if required”. David Evans, who was paid eight dollars to examine the City Band’s instruments reported they were in good condition “taking into consideration the period they have been in used”. Miss Mac Fie of the City Hospital was granted a large pipe and sink with drain to be installed in the hospital morgue.

The Council met on Monday May 6th 1895.
Present: His Worship the Mayor and Aldermen Shaw, Coupland, Gallagher, Queen, Mc Craney, Wm Brown, Thomas, W. P. Brown, and Bethune.
The minutes of last meetings were read and adopted.

From H. G. Moore et al protesting against the passing of the Sunday Closing By Law.

The Chief of the Fire Department reported that he had suspended Firemen Elliott & Spice for quarrelling.
Their case was investigated and they were sent back to duty with a caution.

That the City Solicitor be instructed to give a written opinion as to whether the city is responsible to Mr. Beattie for any damages for shortening the Market limits and that he define Mr. Beattie’s responsibilities regarding the making of repairs to the Market building.

The matter under discussion was the question of the location of the Street Railway on Robson Street.

That the Street Railway track be laid on the south side of Robson Street in the proper distance from the centre line of the street to admit of their being two tracks if required.

Also resolved that said track be placed on the west side of Denman Street and on the north side of Alberni, the distance between the rails to be left to the City Engineer to decide and that the Street Railway to be required to put their track in permanent grade on Robson Street between Granville and Cardero Street, and that all street crossings be planked by the Company between the rails the City to do no grading for the track. The plans submitted by Mr. Garden, Engineer for the Company to be approved subject to minor details and changes which

Notice of Motion
Alderman Gallagher gave notice:
(1) That at next meeting of Council he would move the following resolution.
“That all employees who get $75.00 per month be reduced 5 percent; that all getting from $75.00 to $100.00 be reduced 10 percent and that up to $125.00 per month they be reduced to 12 percent and over that amount 15 percent.”
(2) That he would introduce a by Law to close barber shops on Sunday.
