Present – Alderman Brown (Acting Mayor) and Aldermen Painter, Banfield, Schou, McPhaiden, Clandenning, MacDonald, Bethune and Coldwell.
The Minutes of last meeting were read and adopted.

The Fire and Police Committee met on Tuesday November 24th 1896
Present – the full Board
Communications
From J. Kelly and John McAllister applying for positions on the Police Force
Resolved that John McAllister be appointed Special Constable for the City of Vancouver until a permanent appointment be made. Salary to be fixed at $60.00 per month and that the appointment of a 2nd temporary special be left in the hands of the Chairman and Chief of Police to select and appoint at the same salary, in the meantime that the City Clerk be instructed to call for applications for two policemen.

From Wm Collier, Sargeant Dillabaugh and Dr. Wood rendering accounts for giving evidence in the Police Court in the cases of Wilton and McLeod account of indictable offences.
The City Solicitor advised that the Provincial Government was responsible for the payment of these accounts.
From H. H. Spicer & Co Gilley Bros and S.A. Stuart tendering on furnishing a team of horses to the Fire Department.
The Committee arranged to go down and examine the horses of Mr. Stuart on Wednesday at 2.30 P.M.
From the Acting Chief of Police stating that the force were in need of rain coats
Matter left in the hands of the Chairman and Chief of Plice to attend to.
Resolved that the Stairs at No. 2 Fire Hall be altered and repaired in proper shape.

The Water and Market Committee met on Wednesday November 26th 1896

From Thos W. Thomas etal members of the Board of Works and Water Works asking for a half holiday on Saturdays.
Laid over to consult with the Board of Works
From H. J. Franklin asking for an increase of salary to $60.00 per month
It was resolved that his salary be increased to $60.00 per month as requested to date from December 1st 1896.
From R. P. Rastitt & Co asking to be paid the cost of a cable to England for quotations on pipe as owing to the time for opening tenders having been extended they would have had time to write. Filed
It was resolved that all parties allowed water to run to wash should be prosecuted and that the Inspector be instructed to prosecute in all cases.
It was resolved that a special meeting of this Committee be held on Friday 27th next at 3 o’clock to open the tenders for water pipe.

That the Contract for pig lead be awarded to the B.C. Iron Works Co.
