The Council held a Special Meeting on Thursday October 14th 1897 at 8pm to discuss smelter matters.
Present: His Worship the Mayor and Aldermen Townley, McQueen, Brown, W.S. MacDonald, D.G. McDonald and Bethune. Also the City Solicitor, City Engineer and Harry Symons Q.C. representing the smelting company {Rothschild’s syndicate}.
The draft form of agreement as prepared by the City Solicitor was read.
It was then moved by Alderman McQueen;
seconded by Alderman Townley
That the Council go into Committee of the Whole for its consideration.
Carried.
The Mayor was appointed Chairman.
In Committee the agreement was read over clause by clause and reported to Council.
It was then moved by Alderman Townley, Seconded by Alderman McQueen
That the Council adjourn until Friday at 4pm for the final consideration of the agreement. Carried.
The Council accordingly adjourned.
