Vancouver January 18th 1897.
The Council met on Monday January 18th 1897 at 10 A.M.
Present – His Worship Mayor Collins and Aldermen Shaw, Painter. Banfield, Schou, McPhaiden, Clandenning, Brown, McPhaiden, Bethune and Coldwell.
The Minutes of last meeting were read and adopted.
The following Reports were received and read:-

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee met on Friday January 15th 1897.
Present – Aldermen Brown (in the Chair) Painter Clandenning and Bethune
The following accounts were recommended for payment:-
News. Advertiser Supplies $52.29
A Garland Labor 2.
V Standke Supplies 50.60
W.A. Cumyau Interpreting 5.
G.W. Hutchings Valuating 20.
G.W. Weeks “ 20.
Telephone Co. Rents 36.15
J.W. Fonseca etal Returning Officers 144.50

Resolved that the Deputy Returning Officers be paid $6.00 each and the Poll Clerks $4.00 each but in future they be paid only $5.00 and $3.00 respectively

Communications were received from G. W. Hutchings and G.W. Weeks validating the goods of Jun Kee that were damaged by water at $159.25

Water & Market Committee

The Water and Market Committee met on Wednesday January 13th 1897.
Present – Aldermen Brown, Painter and Schou.

It was resolved that the City Engineer be instructed to order $1300 worth of meters, $1200 from the Hersey Meter Co they being the cheapest and $100 worth from the Thomson Meter Co.
